Nasdaq chief praises Qatar's role


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Minister of Economy and Trade, H E Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed Al Thani yesterday rang the ceremonial opening bell at Nasdaq, the world's leading stock market at its headquarters in New York.

The CEO of the stock market expressed his pleasure for Sheikh Ahmed's visit. The opportunity given to the economy minister reflects the importance the US accords to Qatar. The chief of Nasdaq also praised Qatar for being among the list of countries that have earned great recognition in the field of business and investments globally.

The chairman of Nasdaq Stock Exchange delivered a speech in which he praised the role played by Qatar on the regional and international levels. He also said the Gulf state, in terms of geography and size may be a small country, but in terms of its political role and other activities, it has surpassed many of the major countries of the world.

He further said that Qatar has left its mark in the international arena in terms of resources and the quality of living standard it has been able to provide to its people, and also for the relationship it has maintained with its trading partners from around the world.

The head of the National Council for US-Arab Relations, Dr Jean Antonio also attended the meeting, where he gave a speech expressing the depth of US-Arab relations, especially with regard to the State of Qatar.
