Oman loses opener to South Korea

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman began its AFC U16 Championship campaign on a disappointing note as it lost 1-3 to two-time champion South Korea in a Group A match in Bangkok Thailand on Saturday.

Goals from Yu Seung-Min and You Juan handed South Korea victory in the opening game at the Muangthong Stadium. South Korea opened the scoring in the first half through Kim Jung-Min's effort only to see the lead cancelled out shortly after through a deflected strike from Oman's Dakhil al Yahmadi.

But after Yu headed home with four minutes remaining fellow substitute You sealed the win for South Korea in the last minute. South Korea kept possession in the opening stages but had  little to show for its efforts as Park Sang-Hyeok's goal-bound effort was deflected out for a corner in the ninth minute before Jang Gyeol-Hee fired wide three minutes later.

But the game sprung into life in the 21st minute when midfielder Kim hit an unstoppable 25-yard strike that gave Oman goalkeeper Ammar al Rusheidi no chance.

However Oman hit back strongly and levelled the score  in the 30th minute when Yahmadi's speculative effort  deflected off Jang Jae-Won and looped over goalkeeper Ahn Joon-Soo and into the net.

Oman started the second half positively and the lively Yazeed al Siyabi shot just wide in a one-on-one with South Korea goalkeeper Ahn in the 48th minute before the striker fired into the side-netting just after the hour mark.

With the game appearing to be fizzling out a cross from Park Myeong-Su found Yu and his header crept over the line. Also in Group A action Malaysia edged Thailand 1-0. Oman next plays Thailand on Monday while South Korea faces Malaysia on the same day.
