Qatar to host first global forum on security, human rights in Arab region

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Qatar National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) will host the first international conference on security and human rights in the Arab region on November 5-6.
The conference's high preparatory committee yesterday met at the headquarters of Arab Interior Ministers Council General- Secretariat in Tunis under NHRC Chairman, Dr Ali bin Smeikh Al Marri.
Representatives of the General Secretariat, UN High Commission for Human Rights, Arab League and Arab Network of National Institutions for Human Rights attended as organising partners.
Arab interior ministries, national human rights institutions, human rights organisations and non-governmental human rights organisations will meet to discuss security and human rights and obstacles in the march of human rights. They will also review Arab and international experiences in the field of security and human rights, important conventions and codes related to the work of security agencies and human rights organisations.
More than 300 representatives from Arab, regional and international human rights organisations, European, African and American courts of human rights, International Criminal Court, United Nations agencies, Interpol, Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, Naif University for Security Sciences, UN Office for Drugs and Crime and UN Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute will take part in the conference.
Dr Al Marri praised support and efforts being exerted by the Prime Minister and Interior Minister for the success of the conference. He said the conference is the only one of its kind, to be organised by NHRC and hosted by Qatar, pointing out that the government has extended rapid response to support and upgrade humanity and dignity.
