ISpy: Catch yourself peeping at other peoples phones

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Its tempting to peek at someones phone but do you really want to be that person

It’s despicable. It’s low and you always feel bad doing it. No I’m not talking about watching a film starring Vin Diesel (although those of you know who you are and should be thoroughly ashamed). However this is almost just as insidious. Mobile phones have been around for a while so listening in on conversations in a restaurant or on public transport for example is nothing new. We all at times have been enthralled in the unfolding argument we can only hear one side of or tried to suppress a giggle when the caller signs off with one too many sickly sweet nothings. This phenomenon has become de rigueur. Just take note the next time somebody’s tawdry novelty ringtone goes off and witness the silence descend upon the vicinity.

While eavesdropping may have become acceptable in a public place a more modern aspect of cellular phones has led to the polite boundaries of nosiness being tested. Mobile device screens while miniscule in yesteryear are now giant. And this creates a dilemma. When text communications were confined to relatively privacy friendly laptops or phones with a viewing window the size of a lip balm there was no problem. Now you only have to be in the same room as someone sending or receiving a message and as a result of the 20 foot LCD display they’re holding you will be able to see it.

What do you do If you’re on the metro at rush hour crammed in sardine-style it’s difficult to look away. You should. Definitely. But it’s difficult. I’ll admit I was particularly taken the other day with a chap’s rather intense early evening Whatsapp chat with someone we can only assume was his wife or partner given the explicit nature of the conversation. I did feel bad though… eventually.

Looking around the past few days I can see I’m not the only one who has succumbed to curiosity. Some aren’t even subtle about it – craning their necks over towards their neighbour to have a gander. Well it’s not right. Even when those around are holding something the size of an Imax cinema it’s not our business. So stop. Promise
