the 225-issue nikkei stock average ended up 43.77 points or 0.29% from tuesday at 15369.97 according to japan's (kyodo) news agency.
the broader topix index of all first section issues on the tokyo stock exchange finished 4.7 points or 0.37% higher at 1280.78.
major gainers included rubber products marine transport as well as oil and coal products shares. (qna)
