Dutch beat Chile in Group B as both reach World Cup last 16

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Netherlands beat Chile to claim first in Group B as both progressed to the FIFA 2014 World Cup last 16, leaving Spain to battle out a consolation win over Australia, who were both earlier knocked out. Two substitutes, Leroy Fer and Memphis Depay, came on for the Dutch to score their winning goals in the 77th and second minute of added time respectively, illustrating the attacking might of the side, who won all of their consecutive group matches. The victory ensured that the Dutch climb top of the group thus avoiding a difficult encounter with the tournament hosts, Brazil. The other Group B fixture saw champions Spain earn a 3-0 triumph over bottom-placed Australia. The champions squandered the opportunity to defend their title and were knocked out early in the tournament after two heavy consecutive defeats by Netherlands, 5-1, and Chile, 2-0.
