Lebanese PM thanks Kuwaiti leadership, people for relentless support


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam said Sunday his visit to Kuwait aimed at expressing gratitude for the Kuwaiti leadership and people for their relentless support for Lebanon. At a news conference, Salam hoped relations between Lebanon and Kuwait would contribute to further cooperation. He said he was confident the leaderships in the two countries were keen on achieving the mutual objectives that would serve the best interests of the people in Lebanon and Kuwait. Salam said his visit was an opportunity to meet with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and hold talks with his counterpart His Highness Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. Salam said he discussed with the Kuwaiti officials the Syrian refugees in Lebanon. He added that the Kuwaiti officials were following this issue very closely. Kuwait has always been providing humanitarian assistance for the Syrian refugees in Lebanon, said Salam. The Syrian refugees in Lebanon make up 25 percent of population. Kuwait, upon UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's request, hosted two donor conferences to help the Syrian people in and outside their country. Kuwait pledged USD 800 million in the two meetings.
