UAE through to GCC Ice Hockey Ch'ship final after Kuwait win

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Reigning GCC Ice Hockey champions United Arab Emirates look set to retain their third title after beating hosts Kuwait, 2-0, on Monday. The UAE have won their third game in a row and the latest result puts them through to the final of the round robin competition with six points, while the hosts took four points from earlier victories over Qatar and Oman. With both teams employing a wary defensive game, Kuwait - the 2012 runners-up - paid for two errors made by their goaltender which the Emiratis capitalized on. The Kuwaitis came close to scoring on a few occasions but could not quite find the decent finish to their advances. Monday's other fixture saw Oman put the pressure on the hosts after earning a huge 9-3 victory over Qatar, who have been defeated for the third time since the start of the four-nation tournament. The UAE will again face Qatar next having ensured progress to the final as Kuwait faces Oman on Tuesday - the result of the latter encounter being particularly crucial for the sides involved.
