Kuwait spares no opportunity to extend help to any Asian country


(MENAFN- Arab Times) Kuwait city may 21 (kuna): kuwait is committed to supporting all efforts for peace and prosperity in the asian continent and for eradication of poverty and creation of opportunities for the continent's masses of people said a senior kuwaiti official in a speech at the fourth summit of the conference on interaction and confidence building measures in asia (cica).

deputy prime minister and minister of defense sheikh khaled al-jarrah al-sabah told the conference according to a statement issued by kuwait embassy here a copy of which was received by kuna that kuwait spared no opportunity to extend a helping hand to any country in asia and that help is manifested vividly by the role undertaken by the kuwait fund for arab economic development.

he applauded the initiative presented by the chinese president xi jinping to build the colossal project of the silk road spanning the length and breadth of the continent of asia. the kuwaiti official also noted that among challenges for the continent are the crises in syria and palestine which he said required maximum attentiveness by the international community and a strong will to resolve them. he also mentioned in his speech the environmental challenges facing asia noting at the same time that kuwait has taken enormous strides to protect the environment in the country.

meanwhile member states of the conference on interaction and confidence building measures in asia (cica) vowed wednesday to seek common comprehensive cooperative and sustained security host china's state-owned xinhua news agency reported. in the declaration issued at the fourth summit of the cica held in shanghai the members agreed that in the context of globalization security has become an all-encompassing concept with increasingly prominent transnational comprehensive and interconnected features according to the report. 'the countries in the region share common interests and security concerns' the declaration said adding that no country can stay immune in the face of security problems.

the cica members reiterated their collective desire to carry forward the spirit of solidarity cooperation and mutual assistance respect each other's sovereignty and seek common development and progress.

they pledged that no state should strengthen its security at the expense of security of other states emphasizing that no state group of states or organization can have pre-eminent responsibility for maintaining peace and stability. the two-day shanghai summit drew dignitaries from 47 countries or international organizations. some 11 foreign heads of states such as russian president vladimir putin and iranian president hassan rouhani also attended.

the cica members also reaffirmed to respect each other's sovereignty independence territorial integrity and inviolability of internationally recognized borders to refrain from the threat or use of force against territorial integrity or political independence of any state in any manner inconsistent with the principles and purposes of the un charter. the cica members expressed support to the orderly and peaceful conclusion of the ongoing developments in hotspot regions including the middle east and north africa calling upon all parties concerned to implement all relevant un resolutions to achieve comprehensive lasting and just peace and security and stability in the middle east by resuming negotiations.
