Dows Double Celebration at the OilGas Middle East Awards
(MENAFNEditorial) Dow Chemical (NYSE: DOW) has emerged as a double winner at the 4th Oil and Gas Middle East Awards, winning "Best International Collaboration" for Sadara Chemical Company and "Corporate Social Responsibility Project of the Year" for the Dow Marine Conservation Program in Kuwait. These prestigious awards celebrate excellence in the region's upstream and downstream industry, recognizing organizations, projects and people that have contributed to placing the Middle East at the heart of the world's energy industry.
A joint venture developed by Dow and Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco), Sadara Chemical Company (Sadara) is building and will own and operate a fully integrated, world-scale chemicals complex in Jubail Industrial City II, located in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Once complete, Sadara will help diversify the economy by adding value to the Kingdom's vast petroleum reserves and making chemical products not produced before in the Middle East.
"It is great to see Sadara recognized at this prestigious awards ceremony. The project continues to be a major focus for the region, and once online it will create unprecedented opportunities for the downstream petrochemical industry," said Markus Wildi, President, Dow Middle East, North Africa & Turkey and Vice President, Corporate Development, Kuwait. "Sadara will provide much-needed capacity and will enable a new portfolio of products to be made in Saudi Arabia for the very first time. Customers in the Middle East and Africa as well as Asia Pacific and Eastern Europe will benefit from increased supply to meet their ever-growing requirements."
The Dow Marine Conservation Program (DMCP) claimed "CSR Project of the Year" for its efforts to educate and mobilize local community, to help preserve Kuwait's fragile ecosystem through area cleanups, awareness campaigns and classroom education. Through this unique program, Dow has actively engaged over 3,000 volunteers from government agencies, NGOs, and educational institutions in order to restore the rich marine ecosystem along Kuwait's bay and islands. To date, the DMCP project has collected and recycled over 19 tons of waste.
Accepting the CSR Project of the Year award on behalf of Dow, Jamel Attal, Managing Director of Dow Kuwait, said, "Dow is very passionate about sustainability and believes strongly that the wellbeing of our business is very closely interlinked with that of the communities we operate in. Winning this award is an excellent validation of this philosophy and the hard work our DMCP team has invested over the past year"
