Lufthansa boss 'plans to quit'
(MENAFN- AFP) The head of German airline Lufthansa, Christoph Franz, plans to step down, the daily Die Welt reported Sunday in its online edition, quoting his inner circle.
Asked by AFP about the report, a Lufthansa spokesman said the company "never comments on speculation".
Die Welt said that Franz was in already negotiating his departure with the Lufthansa supervisory board.
His contract, which started in January 2011, runs out in May 2014, the spokesman added.
Franz, who had been dispatched to clean house at Lufthansa's Switzerland unit, Swiss, returned to the parent company in 2009 before taking the helm two years ago.
Swiss newspaper NZZ am Sonntag said Franz was interested in heading up the board of directors at pharmaceutical group Roche, after its current chairman Franz Humer, announced he would retire early next year.
The newspaper noted that Christoph Franz had served on Roche's supervisory board since 2011.
Contacted by AFP, a Roche spokeswoman declined to comment on the report.
