S Korea's Oct industrial electricity sales dip 1.5%
(MENAFN) South Korea's Ministry of Knowledge Economy stated that in October, sales of industrial electricity fell 1.5 percent from the same period a year ago to 20.79 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), reported Xinhua News.
The ministry attributed the drop to a rise of 4.9 percent in electricity prices, which was introduced in August; however, the lagging effect affected the power usage tardily.
It said that in the January-October period, industrial electricity sales rose 2.8 percent to 214.41 billion kWh.
In October, electricity sales for household usage gained 1.1 percent as a result of cold weather, nevertheless, electricity sales for educational facilities usage dropped 3.2 percent.
Power sales for general usage went down 4.9 percent, while those for streetlight dipped 1.3 percent.
It is worth noting that total power sales, including industrial and household sectors, fell 2 percent in October from a year earlier to 34.91 billion kWh.
