Pakistan- Another polio case surfaces in Balochistan

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: Another polio case has surfaced in Dukki district of Balochistan where 18-month-old Farzana has been diagnosed with the crippling disease.

The Health Department said it is the second polio case in Balochistan this year. Another polio case had surfaced in Dukki district on 12 April.

Three polio cases were reported in Balochistan last year. These cases were reported in Killa Abdullah district situated near the Afghan border.

Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only two countries in the world where polio is categorised is endemic viral infection. Vaccination efforts in both these countries are often hampered due to refusal of parents or threats from militants.

In the fresh case of Farzana, it is yet to be ascertained whether she got the polio vaccination during the immunisation campaign or not.
