Bernard Lewis, Mideast scholar, dies at 101

(MENAFN) Mideast historian Bernard Lewis, a Jewish neoconservative who warned of a "clash of civilizations" between Islam and the West, died Saturday at the age of 101 in New Jersey.

A fan for the Israeli occupation, Lewis was an often controversial figure, as he was accused of being a "genocide denier" for his views on the Armenian Genocide.

Also, he was perhaps best known for his support of war of Iraq, which killed many innocents in the Arab country and brought him criticism for his support for invasion.

Lewis was widely criticized his academic peers since joining Princeton. His detractors view him as the embodiment of the West's efforts to rule and police the Middle East.
