(MENAFN) While protests erupted all across Moscow, Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was confirmed to have been detained.

Regardless of his arrest overnight, the leader asked his followers to carry on with the protests.

"They have detained me. This doesn't mean anything ... you didn't come out for me, but for your future," he posted on Twitter.

The demonstrations were declared to have been carried out by dozens to hundreds of protesters.
