Coalition command says ballistic missile towards Riyadh intercepted
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) (Changing datline) JEDDAH, Nov 4 (KUNA) -- The command of coalition forces supporting legitimacy in Yemen on Saturday announced that Saudi Arabia's air defense intercepted a ballistic missile fired from Yemen towards Riyadh.
Colonel Turki Al-Malki, spokesman for the coalition, said the missile was fired from Yemen close to the capital Riyadh that aimed to target civilians at residential areas.
He added that it was brought down north of King Khaled International Airport with no casualties.
He said this hostile and indiscriminate act by the Houthi militants affirmed that a regional state sponsoring terrorism and supporting the Houthis has qualitative capabilities in a clear defiance of the UN Security Council Resolution 2216, with the aim of threatening Saudi, regional and international security.
Al-Malki also stressed that launching ballistic missiles towards populated cities and villages runs counter to the international humanitarian law.
Meanwhile, Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation affirmed the safety of the airport's facilities, saying that the missile brought down on the vicinity of the airport and flights are operating normally. (pickup previous) nh.hm
