Türkiye Hosts Turkic States Summit to Strengthen Regional Cooperation

Date:

(MENAFN) Türkiye is hosting the 13th summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Ankara, aiming to deepen cooperation among member countries under the theme “Turkic Century: Unity in Language, Thought and Deed.”

The two-day gathering, scheduled for Thursday and Friday in the Turkish capital, is being hosted by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Discussions are expected to focus on strengthening solidarity among Turkic nations, expanding joint initiatives and outlining the organization’s future direction.

Founded in 2009 under the name Turkic Council, the organization adopted its current title during its eighth summit in Istanbul in 2021.

Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan are full members of the OTS. Turkmenistan, Hungary, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Economic Cooperation Organization participate as observers.

The organization said the summit would bring together the leaders of its member states, senior representatives from observer countries and its secretary general to “discuss the current state and future prospects of cooperation within the Organization,” alongside other regional matters.

According to the OTS, participating leaders are expected to assess progress across the organization’s main areas of cooperation, with particular attention to “further strengthening unity and solidarity” among Turkic countries. They will also discuss advancing joint efforts under the Turkic World Vision 2040, a long-term framework for cooperation among participating states.

The meeting will also mark the transfer of the organization’s rotating chairmanship from Azerbaijan to Türkiye. Participants are expected to discuss the appointment of a new secretary general and establish strategic priorities “for the forthcoming period.”

The OTS said the leaders are expected to approve the Ankara Declaration, alongside additional decisions and documents intended to expand cooperation and reinforce the organization’s institutional structure.

The main summit of heads of state is scheduled for Friday, while foreign ministers from member countries are due to meet on Thursday to discuss issues related to the organization’s agenda.
