Türkiye Hosts Istanbul Mediation Conference on Peacebuilding
(MENAFN) Türkiye will host the ninth Istanbul Mediation Conference on Oct. 23-24 under the theme “Partnerships and New Perspectives for Peace: Mediation in a Changing World,” the Foreign Ministry announced Monday.
The event will take place under the auspices of Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan as international relations and global dynamics undergo rapid and far-reaching changes, according to a ministry statement.
Türkiye has been actively supporting peaceful conflict resolution and introduced the “Mediation for Peace” initiative at the United Nations in 2010.
The country is also the only one to serve as co-chair of the Groups of Friends of Mediation simultaneously at the UN, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Since 2012, Türkiye has organized the Istanbul Mediation Conferences, developing the gathering into an international forum for conflict resolution, preventive diplomacy and mediation efforts.
The upcoming edition is expected to convene relevant stakeholders to encourage dialogue, examine contemporary obstacles to mediation and explore innovative methods and new perspectives for advancing peace, the ministry said.
The conference will begin with two panel discussions titled “Mediation in a Changing World: Reclaiming the Space for Diplomacy” and “Partnerships and New Perspectives for Peace: Shaping the Future of Mediation.”
These sessions will address ways to expand opportunities for diplomatic engagement and strengthen mediation as a tool for preventing conflicts.
Additional discussions will include “Shared Commitment to Peace: Experiences and Perspectives,” “Humanitarian Efforts in Times of Conflict” and “From Prevention to Sustainable Peace.” These panels will examine the experiences of countries involved in mediation, along with the difficulties they encounter.
Participants will also discuss different approaches to mediation processes, drawing on the knowledge and experience of academics, field specialists and representatives of think tanks.
