Türkiye Rejects Claims of Secret Diplomatic Meeting in Azerbaijan

Date:

(MENAFN) Türkiye’s Embassy in Baku on Saturday dismissed reports alleging that Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a “secret meeting” during his recent visit to Azerbaijan, describing the claims as unfounded.

In a statement, the embassy criticized a report titled Behind the Scenes of Hakan Fidan’s Meeting at GYF, which appeared in several Azerbaijani media outlets, particularly Qafqazinfo, saying it relied on baseless accusations.

The embassy characterized the coverage as part of a disinformation campaign allegedly aimed at undermining relations between Türkiye and Azerbaijan.

It explained that Fidan had taken courtesy photographs with numerous individuals during his stay in Baku, including members of an organization legally registered in Azerbaijan.

“The allegations that our minister held a secret meeting and issued various instructions are categorically untrue,” the statement said.

The embassy further said the allegations were linked to a purported letter addressed to the Turkish parliament, which reportedly contained accusations unrelated to reality. It emphasized that no such letter existed.

The statement also rejected references in the report to “plans to interfere in internal affairs,” “intelligence operations,” “coup and chaos plots,” and “recruiting agents of influence.” The embassy described these claims as deliberate fabrications intended to turn Azerbaijani public opinion against Türkiye.
