Türkiye, Spain Advance Joint Development of Hurjet Training Aircraft
(MENAFN) Türkiye and Spain plan to develop a joint version of the Hurjet jet trainer, incorporating contributions from Spanish subcontractors, Turkish Defense Industries Secretary Haluk Gorgun announced Wednesday.
Speaking at the opening of the Ida Türkiye Defense and Aerospace Industrial Cooperation Days in Ankara, Gorgun identified Spain’s decision to select the Hurjet for its air force as the leading example of defense cooperation between the two countries.
“The initial versions of Hurjet will be manufactured and delivered by Turkish Aerospace Industries. But with contributions from subcontractors in Spain and additional certification there, we will deliver a version that could become a joint platform for the two countries,” he said.
The aircraft will initially be tailored to Spain’s operational requirements before being marketed to other NATO members and partner nations, Gorgun added.
He also welcomed Spain as the first partner country participating under the event’s new cooperation framework, highlighting the role of international gatherings for small and medium-sized enterprises in deepening industrial partnerships.
The event was organized by the OSTIM Defense and Aviation Cluster, with support from Türkiye’s National Defense Ministry and Defense Industries Secretariat. Its opening ceremony took place at Congresium Ankara.
