Türkiye, EU Seek Closer Ties Amid Global Trade Uncertainty
(MENAFN) Türkiye and the European Union need to deepen their partnership on competitiveness and economic security as international trade faces growing uncertainty, Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat said Tuesday.
In a statement posted on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal after the Türkiye-EU Business Summit in Brussels, Bolat said he joined European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maros Sefcovic in addressing business representatives from both sides at the gathering.
Bolat pointed to bilateral trade exceeding $233 billion and European investors accounting for around 70% of foreign direct investment in Türkiye as evidence of the strength of their economic relationship and their interconnected interests.
He noted that Sefcovic had emphasized the strategic value of economic and commercial cooperation between Türkiye and the EU, while underscoring the importance of the High-Level Trade Dialogue in developing bilateral relations.
Bolat also called for the EU’s emerging industrial and competitiveness strategies to reflect the established manufacturing networks and supply chains built under the Customs Union.
"Türkiye is not only an important trading partner for Europe; it is also a strong production base, a reliable supply chain partner, and a strategic partner in global competition," he said.
Bolat added that Türkiye’s capacity to contribute to Europe’s industrial strength, secure supply networks and competitiveness in international markets was becoming increasingly significant.
