Sara Flores Documentary To Screen At São Paulo, DOC NYC Festivals
The documentary will premiere in the United States as the opening night selection at DOC NYC on Wednesday, November 11, with online streaming available as part of the festival from November 12 through November 29. Prior to its U.S. debut, it is scheduled to screen at the 50th annual São Paulo International Film Festival, starting on October 19.
The film opens with scenes from the Amazon rainforest, showing Flores stripping bark and boiling it, with a small tamarin monkey resting on her head. She then applies geometric shapes freehand with a blade dipped in tree juice. Her nails, stained by age and ink, maintain a steady grip. Later sequences capture Flores on a first-class flight to New York, smiling with a flute of champagne, and admiring visitors at her exhibition at the now-closed Clearing gallery on the Bowery. She is also depicted feeding pigeons in Central Park.
