Türkiye’s Trade Chief Set for Brussels Visit for High-Stakes EU Talks

Date:

(MENAFN) Türkiye’s Trade Minister Omer Bolat travels to Brussels on Tuesday for two days of talks with the European Union aimed at settling economic and trade questions, with a contested draft industrial law set to dominate his agenda.

The centerpiece is the third Türkiye-EU High-Level Trade Dialogue, co-chaired by Bolat and Maros Sefcovic, the EU’s commissioner for trade and economic security. Delegates are set to tackle unresolved Customs Union disputes, the green and digital transitions, and a review of the bloc’s proposed Industrial Accelerator Act. Consultations will also cover public procurement, digital trade and trade defense instruments.

The two officials will also co-chair the Türkiye-EU Business Roundtable, which will examine operational and cross-border e-commerce hurdles, along with measures to make investment more predictable.

Bolat will then attend the Türkiye-EU Business Summit, organized with the Foreign Economic Relations Board and the European Business Summit. Discussions there will explore trade and investment cooperation, alongside energy, security, industrial policy and economic resilience.

He will also join the Türkiye-Belgium High-Level Roundtable, organized with the Foreign Economic Relations Board and the Federation of Belgian Enterprises. The forum is meant to strengthen existing ties and open new investment avenues after a Belgian economic mission led by Queen Mathilde visited Türkiye in May.

A separate session, organized with the Automotive Exporters’ Association and the European Reform Center, will closely examine the regulatory effects of the draft Industrial Accelerator Act.

Bolat is also due to meet Teresa Ribera, senior vice president of the European Commission for a clean, fair and competitive transition. Their talks will focus on the EU’s emerging competitiveness agenda and new industrial policies that bear on EU-Türkiye economic integration.

In meetings with members of the European Parliament, the draft Industrial Accelerator Act will be Bolat’s chief priority during his Belgium trip. He is expected to press for inclusive industrial rules that respect established supply chains, and to urge lawmakers to apply trade defense instruments that safeguard the value chains built under the long-standing Türkiye-EU Customs Union.
