Kyiv Protests Belarus's Summoning Of Ukraine's Chargé D'affaires
“Ukraine protests the summoning of Ukraine's chargé d'affaires in the Republic of Belarus to the foreign ministry in Minsk and the statements made by the Belarusian side regarding an incident involving a truck in Russia's Bryansk region. We consider it groundless to hold Ukraine responsible without presenting convincing evidence of its involvement,” the statement said.
The Foreign Ministry noted that Minsk's public accusations against Ukraine have been accompanied by rhetoric claiming that Ukraine is deliberately seeking to draw Belarus into the conflict, as well as threats of“adequate response measures.”
“We reject these absurd allegations from a country that is complicit in the crime of aggression against Ukraine and provides extensive assistance to Russia in its criminal war of aggression against our state,” the ministry emphasized.
The Foreign Ministry condemned attempts to shift responsibility for the consequences of Russian aggression, portray Ukraine as a source of threats to Belarus, and deliberately heighten tensions in the region.
“We call on the Belarusian side to refrain from baseless accusations, threats, and information manipulation. We consider attempts to use this incident to justify Minsk's continued support for Russian aggression or to create additional threats to Ukraine unacceptable,” Ukraine's Foreign Ministry said.
On October 9, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus summoned Ivan Novytskyi, Ukraine's chargé d'affaires in Belarus, over what it described as“yesterday's attack by a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle on a truck with Belarusian registration in Russia's Bryansk region,” in which a Belarusian woman allegedly“sustained severe injuries.”
A note of protest was handed to the Ukrainian diplomat.
