Egypt Reaffirms Deepening Ties with Türkiye

(MENAFN) Egypt has reaffirmed its resolve to reinforce “constructive” collaboration with Türkiye, according to remarks made by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Wednesday.

During a joint media briefing in Cairo alongside Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Sisi explained that both sides emphasized “the need to continue developing and enhancing constructive cooperation” between the Egyptian and Turkish governments in order “to reach sustainable political solutions that address the root causes of the crises” affecting the region.

He further noted, “We also affirmed the necessity of working to raise the volume of trade exchange to $15 billion and removing any obstacles that may hinder achieving this goal,” highlighting the shared economic ambitions of the two countries.

The Egyptian president underscored the importance of intensified coordination and expanded collaboration among regional states as a means of safeguarding regional security and long-term stability.

“We greatly value our relationship with Türkiye, whose history intersects in part with that of Egypt,” Sisi stated. “Egypt is Türkiye’s leading trading partner in Africa, while Türkiye ranks among the top destinations for Egyptian exports.”

He also pointed out that several memoranda of understanding had been concluded between Cairo and Ankara, covering a wide range of sectors and areas of cooperation.

According to Sisi, his talks with the Turkish leader also addressed the latest developments in Gaza.

“We affirmed the importance of implementing the ceasefire agreement and rejecting any obstruction or circumvention of the peace plan,” he concluded.
