University of Southern California
Dr. Elizabeth Castaldo Lundén holds a doctoral degree in Fashion Studies and a Master of Arts in Cinema Studies from Stockholm University, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations from Universidad Argentina de la Empresa (U.A.D.E.). Currently, she is a Kluge Fellow at the Library of Congress through a fellowship awarded while working at the University of Southern California (USC).
While at USC's School of Cinematic Arts, Dr. Lundén designed and taught a course titled“Fashion and Media Synergies.” She has received several prestigious fellowships, including the Fulbright Scholarship for 2023-2024, the ASF Fellowship for 2024-2025, and the SweAmFo Fellowship for 2023-2025.
Her research examines the historical connections between Hollywood and the fashion industry, focusing on how Hollywood's intermedial influence has shaped the international fashion system. Drawing heavily on archival sources, her work integrates fashion, cinema, and media history. Her latest book,“Fashion on the Red Carpet: A History of the Oscars, Fashion, and Globalisation,” analyzes the Academy Awards' red carpet as a global fashion media event, exploring the collaboration between Hollywood and fashion institutions. The book illustrates how public relations campaigns and media have influenced the fashion discourses surrounding the Oscars.
In 2024, she was awarded the Rettig Prize by the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities for her significant contributions to the development of fashion studies as an academic field. The Academy noted that her research,“in its wealth of perspective and power, is fundamental to the subject's identity and has offered new insights into the possibilities of fashion studies.” (Vitterhetsakademin 2024)
