Turkish Politician makes "antisemitic" comments

(MENAFN) In a deeply disturbing turn of events, a local politician affiliated with Türkiye's ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) has openly praised Adolf Hitler for his genocide of the Jewish population, even going so far as to express prayers for the Nazi leader. Suleyman Sezen, a representative of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's party in the Atakum district council of Samsun province, made these shocking comments during a meeting on Wednesday.

During his impassioned speech, Sezen referenced a quote attributed to Hitler, asserting, "You will curse me for every Jew that I did not kill." He contended that this statement holds undeniable truth, further alleging that the state of Israel, led by Zionist Jews, is implicated in global efforts to foment chaos. Sezen even went on to offer prayers for what he described as "God's mercy and grace" upon Hitler for his purported insight.

Sezen's comments took an even darker turn when he expressed his desire for the cessation of Israel's existence, envisioning a world at peace only after it is purged of Jews. While one council member suggested that Sezen's remarks may have been borne out of intense emotion, the gravity of his statements cannot be understated.

This controversial address came in the wake of a tragic bombing incident at a Gaza hospital on Tuesday, further fueling the ongoing conflict in the region. Israel has vehemently denied responsibility, attributing the tragedy to a misfired Palestinian rocket. Turkey, among other Muslim nations, placed blame on the Jewish state for the atrocity.

In the aftermath of the hospital bombing, the Israeli National Security Council issued an advisory urging its citizens to depart Turkey. This development led to outbreaks of violence in Istanbul, where protestors attempted to breach the security perimeter around the Israeli consulate and set the compound ablaze. Subsequently, reports emerged indicating that Israel had recalled its diplomats from the country. These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the deep-seated tensions and complex geopolitical dynamics at play in the Middle East.
