Türkiye to Deploy Additional Militaries to Kosovo amid Rising Conflicts

Date:

(MENAFN) Türkiye has announced its decision to deploy additional forces to Kosovo in response to the recent tensions in the Balkan country. The Turkish National Defense Ministry stated that a commando battalion from the 65th Mechanized Infantry Brigade Command, previously assigned to the NATO Kosovo Force, will now serve as a reserve force as requested by NATO's Allied Joint Force Command Naples. The unit is expected to be transferred to the Sultan Murat Barracks in Prizren, where Turkish soldiers are stationed, by Sunday or Monday.

The Turkish National Defense Ministry emphasized that Türkiye remains committed to contributing to regional and global peace and stability through its participation in various international organizations and its bilateral relations. The country's missions under the United Nations (UN), NATO, European Union (EU), Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), as well as its historical and cultural ties with the Balkan region, drive its close monitoring of developments in the area.

The statement from the ministry highlighted that Türkiye has adopted a constructive stance and called for restraint among all parties involved in the recent conflicts in northern Kosovo. It emphasized the importance of resolving these conflicts through dialogue, as they pose a threat to regional security and stability. The tensions arose following protests by ethnic Serbs against the election of ethnic Albanian mayors in several municipalities in northern Kosovo.
