Iran summons Norway's ambassador in response to parliament speaker's meddling, inappropriate statements
(MENAFN) The Norwegian ambassador to Tehran has been summoned by the Iranian Foreign Ministry to protest "unacceptable" statements made by the European country's parliament speaker against the Islamic Republic.
During the meeting, the director general of Western Europe at Iran's Foreign Ministry expressed the Islamic Republic's vehement opposition to remarks made by Norwegian Parliament President Masud Gharahkhani in an interview with an anti-Iran, Saudi-backed network based in London, according to a Monday statement.
Gharahkhani's words in support of recent riots in Iran, as well as his intervention in the Islamic Republic's domestic affairs, were sharply criticized by an Iranian Foreign Ministry official.
The Norwegian envoy stated that he will relay Iran's objection to Oslo as soon as possible.
Gharahkhani encouraged those behind the recent disturbances in Iran to continue their acts in his interview, professing his unwavering support for them.
Riots erupted in Iran in mid-September following the murder of a young Iranian woman named Mahsa Amini. The 22-year-old collapsed inside a Tehran police station and died three days later in a hospital.
