Turkey might operate Kabul airport to support Afghanis

(MENAFN) As stated by the Turkish minister of national defense, Turkey may study opening the airport to support Afghanistan's capital Kabul if the situations are appropriate and it is needed.

Hulusi Akar mentioned the old relations with Afghanistan while talking in a visit to the State Cemetery in Turkey's capital Ankara to state Turkey’s yearly Victory Day.

"We have an affinity with Afghanistan that goes back in history, a historical past and common values. We're following and evaluating developments (there) closely."

According to Akar "If the situation and conditions are suitable, we're ready to evaluate such a request if it comes," marking a potential call for Turkey to operate Hamid Karzai International Airport.

He also stressed that Turkey, mainly through the Turkish Armed Forces, maintained Afghanistan in the previous two decades of unsteadiness for its populations "to live in safety and prosperity."
