Emigration Ministry provides accommodation, medicines for Egyptians stranded in UAE

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Minister of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates' Affairs Nabila Makram said, on Monday, that her ministry cooperated with civil society organisations to provide accommodation and medicines for Egyptians stranded in the UAE.

The move came after Kuwait closed down its airports in December, due to resurgence in cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Makram reviewed the efforts made by her Ministry to resolve the problems of Egyptians stranded in the UAE and who were heading to Kuwait. She asserted that those stranded were provided with the accommodation and health care they needed.

She said that the Ministry is cooperating with civil society institutions and Egyptian businesspeople, in order to support and assist Egyptians abroad.

Makram also said that the ministry has prepared an Immigration Law, which aims to establish an emergency fund and insurance umbrella for expatriate Egyptians. This will ensure that they can quickly intervene and provide support to overseas Egyptian citizens in need.

The Minister praised all efforts exerted to provide support for Egyptians stranded in the UAE due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and who have been affected by the closure of air traffic to Kuwait.

She asserted that, since 22 December, the ministry has been taking action to help stranded Egyptians, including providing accommodation, health care and meals. This came in addition to communicating with airlines to book tickets for stranded Egyptians as soon as the airlines are open again.

Makram expressed her appreciation for the authorities in the UAE and Kuwait for extending the stay period for stranded Egyptians, as well as providing PCR tests for them.
