COVID-19 what do you need to know

(MENAFN- Awareness Marketing Management) 1)Some COVID-19 survivors reveal that despite fully recovering, they still experience irregularities in their bodies—such as being tired easily, breathlessness, and difficulty sleeping, among others. Do you believe there is a reason for this?

Fatigue is common after viral infection as a part of the body’s response to fighting a viral infection and it is expected to continue for a long time after infections have cleared. Patients should take adequate rest and balanced food including fruits and vegetables to counter the issue. In most of the cases, it is a self-limiting condition with time. Multivitamin supplementation may be added to those who are suffering from excessive tiredness.
COVID 19 viral infection mainly affects the lungs and the respiratory system. Damages made to the lungs by this infection take a long time to return back to normal. The severity and duration of breathing difficulty depends on the extend of lung damages. Majority recover by self or with breathing exercises. But some patients will require medications to complete and fasten the recovery process. In very few cases permanent lung damages due to fibrosis may also happen which leads to long-term respiratory difficulties.

2) Studies also reveal that many survivors can acquire at least 1 symptom of covid-19 after recovering. What is your take on this?

It is true. Study from Italy shows that after 2 months of COVID 19 infection only 12.6% were completely free of any COVID-19 related symptom, while 32% had 1 or 2 symptoms and 55% had 3 or more. Worsened quality of life was observed among 44.1% of patients.

3) Have you encountered patients with this experience?

Yes, most of the patients coming to our hospital for follow up after COVID-19 are complaining about the same symptoms like fatigue, dry cough, breathing difficulty after exertion, anxiety, lack of sleep etc.

4) Why do you think COVID-19 presents such risks to patients?
This is because of COVID-19 is a disease which affects almost all body organs. Even though it is mainly affecting the respiratory system initially, this infection affects other major organs like the brain, heart, liver and kidney etc.

5) Any advice to patients experiencing these?

Don’t be anxious and panic about these post-COVID symptoms. Majority of these issues will be self-limiting with time. Life style modification with balanced food and exercise is enough. Those experiencing severe problem can obtain medical help.

6) Message to people regarding taking precaution against COVID-19.

We have to continue our basic precautions for a long time like using face mask, hand hygiene measures, social distancing till we get an effective vaccine and even after that. Those who had recovered from COVID-19 in the past should also observe all precautions, since there is a chance to get re-infection with a new strain of COVID19 virus.
