Brunei to boost rice output, ease rice imports
(MENAFN) Brunei was declared to have set a target to bolster rice production along with easing its dependence on rice imports.
This target is planned to be achieved through the development of a higher-yielding rice strain with a production capacity of 10 to 12 tons per hectare per season.
Indonesia's Biogene Plantation joined hands with the Brunei government in 2018 to launch a high-yielding strain "Sembada (188)" variant with a capacity for 8 tons per hectare a season.
The government was also announced to be collaborating with a company in Myanmar on the development of hybrid "Titih", which has the capacity to hit 8 metric tonnes per hectare.
