The third Food Safety Oman Conference, organised by Omanexpo, will be held in conjunction with the 14th Food and Hospitality Oman exhibition from October 14 to 16 at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre.

At the event acclaimed local and global food safety experts, including senior speakers from Muscat Municipality, will address an audience of policymakers, regulators, food retailers, food producers, food handlers, food service providers, distributors, manufacturers, quality and compliance officers, and other professionals from the food industry.

The conference will be highlighted by an opening keynote address by a government representative, presentations, case studies, and interactive panel sessions that will provide valuable insights on standards and regulations, emerging trends, innovations and technology, food safety and quality in supply chain, food safety audits, and food safety operations in food processing, handling and distribution.

A timely and beneficial platform, it comes on the heels of the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources (MRMWR) recent announcement of enforcing stricter food safety regulations and higher fines for violations in its new Food Safety Law. On the global front, the World Health Organization has strengthened its efforts to ensure food safety worldwide, underlining its ramifications on 'food security, human health, economic prosperity, agriculture, market access, tourism and sustainable development'.

Ammar Ahmad, exhibition director, Food and Hospitality Oman, said, 'Food safety is increasingly becoming a major concern in Oman due to the rising number of food-borne health cases in recent years.'

He added, 'We aim to help improve Oman's food safety culture, provide a means to proper and direct information about food safety standards and best practices, and offer an avenue to meet and interact with key industry players and experts.'

The free-to-attend conference is endorsed by Muscat Municipality and supported by the National Hospitality Institute, Food Safety Academy and Oman Tourism College.
