Dutch carrier KLM avoids flying over Strait of Hormuz

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, June 21 (KUNA) -- Dutch airliner KLM Friday said its planes are no longer flying above the Strait of Hormuz following the shooting down by Iran of a US military surveillance drone, Dutch NOS TV reported.
"Safety is our top priority for us. We are following all developments relating to airspace safety closely and are organizing the operation in such a way that flight safety is guaranteed," a KLM spokesperson told NOS.
The decision comes following an emergency order issued by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) earlier Thursday, restricting all US operators from flying in Iranian-controlled airspace over the Strait of Hormuz and Gulf of Oman. (end)
