Qatar- Ministry of Foreign Affairs organises seminar on developments on ICJ cases

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Diplomatic Institute organised yesterday a seminar on the developments of cases currently at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Dean of the College of Law Dr Mohamed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi, who is also the Agent of Qatar in the ICJ, gave a lecture to inform the ministry's officials of the latest developments of Qatar's legal cases against a number of the blockading countries.

Al Khulaifi discussed the claims of the media of the blockading countries, who said that the State of Qatar have lost its case against the UAE.  He stressed that they are confident of the evidence they provided, and optimistic that they will get a decision in December from the committee of racial discrimination that will support the case of the State of Qatar.

He noted that the cases Qatar presents, are the first of their kind in international law. He also said the swift decision to resort to the court was out of the State of Qatar's appreciation to the humanitarian cases and the devastating impact it had on individuals. He noted that Qatar received on June 23 a unanimous verdict from the judges on humanitarian cases, while the complaint made by the UAE against the State of Qatar was rejected. 

He said that the State of Qatar has taken 18 legal actions against the blockading countries, some at the Universal Postal Union, others are at the World Trade Organization, as well as at the committee of racial discrimination, in addition to those in local courts such as the cases related to the manipulation of the Qatari Riyal. 

The State of Qatar's agent in the ICJ expressed appreciation of the role of the state in supporting humanitarian rights, evident in establishing a damages committee that received a lot of complaints. He also highlighted the effort of the National Human Rights Committee which documented a lot of cases as part of the legal action.
