Qatar- Cultural landmarks and malls draw huge crowds
Cultural landmarks and shopping malls hosting Eid Al Fitr celebrations, which kicked off the country's biggest summer festival, wore a festive mood yesterday as visitors thronged the venues in large numbers to enjoy various entertainment offerings and fun activities.
Thousands of people trooped to the different Eid celebration spots to witness the shows and take part in activities.
'This Eid inaugurates our biggest Summer in Qatar programme, and we are delighted to see so many people enjoying the wide range of activities. Festivities in Qatar's cultural landmarks such as Souq Waqif, Souq Al Wakrah and Katara Cultural Village have drawn large crowds, thanks to their traditional atmosphere, artistic performances and of course the splendid firework displays we all await every Eid, said Rashed Al Qurese, Chief Marketing Officer at Qatar National Tourism Council.
He added: 'With discounts in hospitality, retail and travel, and exciting entertainment options, there is something for everyone this summer — from fun for families to fun for all.
"Summer in Qatar is part of our wider strategy to diversify Qatar's tourism offerings, and develop sustainable options throughout the year. As the opening festivities show, the collaborative efforts of QNTC and our partners are bringing much joy.
The huge tent erected at Souq Waqif for Eid celebrations saw hundreds of people on its opening day yesterday.
Visitors got entertained with a host of family shows and performances, and engaged in games and activities for children.
The Katara Cultural Village attracted huge crowds with its stage show and 3D film screening, Eid gift giving and other entertainment offerings.
Participating shopping malls were a big draw with their unique shows and activities.
Onstage Hyatt Plaza Mall were Palestinian and Jordanian folkloric shows along with acrobatic acts while traditional games and competitions were conducted for the young visitors.
It was a highly interactive session for many mall-goers at Doha Festival City who took part in the Original Monopoly Human Sized Game which is a major attraction for its visitors this Eid. In addition, Trimoo Parks is hosting Angry Birds live show and Al Rayyan TV's live game show.
Family fun circus show at Al Mirqab Mall was also a big attraction as jugglers and other entertainers encouraged audience participation taking some of the viewers onstage to try performing some of the acts.
Mall Of Qatar Dora and Ice Age sing along and Justice League at Mall of Qatar; Aladdin Live Show at Lagoona Mall; and magic and puppet show, face painting, Arabic mascots and folkloric performances of Arda, Arabic Dabke and Tannoura at Al Khor Mall also proved major crowd-pullers.
Being a one-stop-shop for entertainment, food and shopping, the Summer Entertainment City, which swung its doors open on the first day of Eid Al Fitr at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center, was also a magnet to many people.
