Oman- Sharqiyah Expressway tunnel work 80% complete: MoTC

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) announced that 80 per cent of work on a 600m tunnel in Nadab on the Bidbid-Sur road, as part of the Sharqiyah Expressway, is complete. The announcement came in the wake of a visit by H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications.

Construction work has begun on another 1,400m long tunnel in Wadi Uq. The first phase of the Sharqiyah Expressway project is from the Bidbid roundabout on the Rusayl-Nizwa road and passes the wilayats of Samail, Mudhaibi and Dima Wa'al Taien and ends at the Masroun intersection in the wilayat of Ibra.

With a total length of 115km, the project involves a number of flyovers and multi-level intersections. The 132km second phase stretches from Ibra to Sur crossing the wilayats of Al Qabel, Bidiyah, Wadi Bani Khalid and Al Kamil W'al Wafi.
