Jordanian actor Nabil Mashini passes away

Amman, March 2 (Petra) –– Jordanian actor Nabil El Mashini, best know as Abu Awwad for his role in television drama series and theatrical works, passed away at an Amman hospital on Saturday at the age of 79.

Born in 1939 to an artistic family, Mashini is the Kingdom's leading actor who over a 45-year career that began as presenter in local and regional media outlets, starred in more than two dozen local and Arab television drama series, including Ras Ghleiss, Wadha Wa Ibin Ajlan and Nimir Al Odwan, which depicted Bedouin traditions, as well as the local series Haret Abu Awad (Abu Awad neighborhood) and a number of plays.

He won local and Arab awards for his roles in Bedouin drama series and others.

In his obituary, Acting Minister of Culture and Youth Mohammad Abu Rumman noted that Mashini's works were known in the Arab world through the various characters which he "skillfully played in and artistically performed".

He also recalled the artist's early work in the media as presenter at Jordan Radio and Television Corporation and also as member of the Jordanian Senate, extending his condolences to the Mashini Family, the Jordanian Artists Association (JAA) and his fans.

Mashini also headed the JAA, worked at Kuwait Television and was appointed as member of the Jordanian Senate in 2003.
