(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The National Diabetes & Endocrine Centre (NDEC) launched on Sunday the first Adult Diabetes Fellowship Programme accredited by the Oman Medical Specialties Board (OMSB).
The diabetes fellowship programme was launched under the auspices of H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Obaid al Sa'eedi, Minister of Health, at the NDEC lecture hall. It aims at supplying the sultanate's health facilities with cadres specialised in the field of diabetes and its associated diseases, as well as promoting the academic and qualification programmes that target medical categories.
The programme also looks to contribute to the advancement of the specialised healthcare aspects in the sultanate.
H E Dr Sa'eedi said, 'We are proud today to launch the first Adult Diabetes Fellowship Programme in the sultanate.'
He emphasised that the selection of this particular area was based on the fact that diabetes is one of the most common diseases locally and internationally.
The international community seeks to enhance the health and preventive system in this field.
The Minister of Health expressed his confidence in the programme's success as it is being supervised by qualified and experienced staff. The criteria of the fellowship programme have been prepared as per the latest internationally recognised medical fellowship programmes. It focuses on qualifying the participants theoretically as well as practically in diabetes and its associated diseases.
Doctors would be familiarised with state-of-art therapeutic and diagnostic methods on diabetes, recognising basics and means of healthcare delivery. Furthermore, they will be more familiar with handling various diabetes complications.
The general practitioners enrolled in the programme went through intensive interviews and will start the academic programme during September.
