Tensions remain high between Israel, Lebanon

(MENAFN) Israel and Lebanon have been exchanging threats and condemnation over a border wall being built by Israel, a tender issued by Beirut for oil and gas exploration in disputed waters and arms flows to Lebanon's Iran-backed Hezbollah group.

Tensions remain high amid fears the disputes could escalate into another war.

Israel and Lebanon relations have never existed under normal economic or diplomatic conditions, but Lebanon was the first Arab league nation to signal a desire for an armistice treaty with Israel in 1949.

Israel invaded southern Lebanon in 1982 and occupied a strip until 2000. Ties remain tense between the two countries.
