Palestine says US decision on Jerusalem undermines peace process

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK, Dec 8 (KUNA) -- Palestine Ambassador to UN Riyadh Mansour said Friday the US recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel would undermine the peace process, urging President Donald Trump to reverse his decision.

"We have always condemned Israel's evasion from punishment despite its violation of international laws, and the American President's recent decision awards Israel instead of its punishment," Mansour told an emergency UN Security Council session on Jerusalem.

He said the US decision violated international laws and would change the situation.

Mansour acknowledged that Jordan was the guardian of the Islamic and Christian sites in Jerusalem.

He reminded the council that international law considered East Jerusalem an occupied city.

Trump's decision means the US is not capable of leading the peace process in the region, he said. (pickup previous) asf.bs
