King honors prominent Jordanian scientists
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Dead Sea, Nov. 7 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday honored a number of prominent Jordanian scientists who have excelled in various fields of science, research, medicine, engineering, physics and technology.
King Abdullah presented awards to the Jordanian scientists, who work as deans of faculties and directors of scientific departments in the world's most renowned universities and institutes, at the World Science Forum (WSF) 2017.
"Jordan is proud to host the World Science Forum, an accelerator of global scientific collaboration, opportunity, and peace," His Majesty said in a tweet.
His Majesty the King honored Dr. Omar Yaghi, a chemist and a candidate for the 2015 Nobel Prize for Chemistry and one of the world's leading chemists and the founder and president of the Berkeley Global Science Institute.
His Majesty also honored Dr. Munir Nayefeh, professor of nanotechnology at the University of Illinois, USA, and founder and president of the Nano Institute at the university, and Dr. Rana Dajani, Associate Professor of microbiology and member of the United Nations' Jordanian Women's Advisory Council, who was selected among the 20 most influential scholars in the Islamic world in 2014.
Dr. Shaher Al-Momani, Professor of Mathematics at the University of Jordan, who was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Physics 2016 and has been ranked one of the world's top ten scientists in mathematics since 2009, was also honored.
Dr. Barham Abu Dayyeh, Associate Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, who developed procedures to reduce stomach volume and treat obesity, as well as Dr. Zeidan Kafafi Professor of Archeology and Anthropology at Yarmouk University, who conducted research on the Neolithic Age.
His Majesty also honored Dr. Khaled Asfar, a specialist in designing engineering systems and renewable energy systems and a recipient of a number of international awards in this field. The King also honored Dr. Issa Batarseh, Professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Central Florida, who has registered 21 patents and won numerous international awards.
His Majesty the King also honored Dr. Ahmed Ghandoor, member of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering at the Hashemite University and expert in the development and innovation of renewable energy, and Dr. Ali Malkawi, Director of the Harvard Center for Green Buildings and Cities for his contributions to the design and development of environmental solutions for buildings adopted by many scientific bodies in the world.
Among the honored were also Dr. Karem Al-Zu'bi, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Jordan University of Science and Technology, whose research in the field of pharmacy focused on the prevention of neurological diseases; Dr. Zeid Al-Kilani for is contributions in the field of medicine in the Kingdom; Sadeem Qdaisat, a researcher in the Department of Genetics at Baylor Medical College and Dr. Sanad Bushnaq, an expert at the Japanese Toshiba Corporation, who has registered many patents in the field of semiconductors, advanced technology and robotics.
