Qatar to study proposals on SriLankan Airlines and decide
Qatar is to study the proposals on SriLankan Airlines and decide on its stand later this month.
Cabinet spokesman, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne told reporters today that a delegation from Qatar, which was in the country over the weekend, had talks with the relevant officials on SriLankan Airlines.
He said the delegation, which has now returned to Qatar with a detailed report, is expected to respond to the proposals soon.
The interest to discuss SriLankan Airlines was shown when President Maithripala Sirisena met the Emir of Qatar last week.
The attention of the Emir was drawn to the request made by the President regarding entering into partnership with the SriLankan Airlines.
SriLankan Airlines has been operating at a major loss and is struggling to recover.
The Government has been looking for partners since 2015 yet discussions have yet to see a positive result. (Colombo Gazette)
