Jordan- Suwaqa Prison Riots Contained, Under Control by Police

AMMAN —AlGhad— The riots which broke out at the Suwaqa correctional facility yesterday, Friday, have been contained and are now under control, the Public Security Directorate (PSD) said in a statement earlier today, Saturday.

According to the police, the riot imploded in protest over an inspection round ordered by the facility's administration.

During the inspection, numerous contraband were confiscated and a number of inmates were relocated to other chambers within the facility.

As the riots intensified, inmates hurt and cut themselves and vandalised the facility's properties.

Meanwhile, riot police have intervened to restore order and have successfully contained the situation.

All around the prison, police vehicles and units have set a perimeter.

In the meantime, a committee was put together to investigate the incidents which took place inside the Suwaqa correctional facility.
