We can safely say that the recent Gulf Crisis and its implications have laid waste to whatever hope we had to revive joint Arab action. Truth be told, the Arab League wasn't doing much better before the Crisis. The ‘Arab Spring' split the Arab World in half and culminated the League's own predicament.
Sadly, the League has grown old, and has no longer the ability or power to bring the Arab World together.
Still, some say that the Arab Gulf, among other Arab countries, have managed to weather the Spring's storm with minimal damage. Hope was that these countries would step up to save what can be saved of our vast nation to overcome the division and the surfacing sectarian polarisation.
There were hopes still that an Arab 'Marshal project would immerge to reconstruct our war-struck nations, devoured by civil dispute, and help Arab countries in peril.
Alas, the wind seldom blows in our favour, when it comes to politics.
The Gulf Crisis, which exploded after Trump's visit to the Saudi, brought us back to square one.
Likewise, the ministerial convention of the Arab League in Cairo, the Summit of our demise, has driven us to a most slippery slope.
At this point, the Gulf Crisis left no place for deliberation on the bigger issues wreaking havoc across the Arab World.
The dispute between them has drained diplomacy and reason dry.
Media on all sides of the conflict have contracted their madness to the rest of the joint Arab body.
Egyptian and Gulf diplomats have abandoned all courtesy to engage in senseless and shameless exchanges of accusations and insults.
This is a new low for the Arab World.
We have not seen such ridiculousness even during the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait.
The recent Cairo Convention, like the one before it in Cairo too, suggests the impossibility of Arab reunion or joint Arab action without the resolution of the Gulf Crisis.
There will be no Arab Summit, or Arab anything, until we're done with this Crisis!
Some predict that the Islamic Cooperation organisation will soon feel the shock of the fallout, put aside the division within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the last Arab cooperative!
Gulf media is not helping; quite contrarily, its role is catastrophic.
All they're doing is inciting people and governments against each other!
Instead, whereas the diplomatic mechanism may be disrupted and suspended, the media could collaborate to realise a ceasefire.
A media de-escalation could give leaders, mediums, and diplomats the chance to operate without further needless pressure, incitement, and intensification!
Honestly; I feel that much of the Gulf Crisis is the media's responsibility.
Meanwhile, a diplomatic endeavour could not be set in motion under media fire.
In various stages of the Crisis, it is no secret that the media was the catalyst in the formulation of the political rhetoric.
Often since the Crisis exploded, the media have carried out deliberate, planned escalations to drive the Kuwaiti mediation to the ground, for instance.
We all remember how the leaked phone call between the Qatari Emir and the Saudi Crown Prince put an end to the anticipated open, direct negotiation!
Arab leaderships should come together to apply pressure on the GCC's leaders to suspend all Council conventions until the Crisis is resolved.
Showdowns have no place in the GCC or any other Arab convention.
We need to salvage what is rest of the Arab League, not tear it to shreds!
