
Afrobasket 2017: Morocco Upset Angola in Historic Win
Angola is arguably the biggest African basketball nation with 11 continental titles.
Angola was the runner up of the last African tournament in 2015 when it was defeated by Nigeria, failing to defend the title it snatched in 2013.Morocco on the other hand won the title only one time back in 1964.
The last time Morocco defeated Angola was in 1980. While the Moroccan team have been making progress in recent years, the Angolan coach, Manuel da Silva was confident of his team's victory.
" We know them very well, we're going to work in order to beat them", he told his country's press previously. However, on Saturday, the Angolan team was stunned to see Moroccans dominate the game despite losing the first quarter 8-10.
The Moroccan team pulled themselves together and managed to win the second and fourth quarter 17-12 and 20-15 to secure a historic win.
The victory is the second for the Moroccan team which got the better of Central African Republic on Friday with a 76-66 win.The Moroccan team is now leader of Group B with 4 points. They take on Uganda on Sunday in their third game in Group B.
