Jordan- Authorities to contact Interpol for arrest of former JPMC chief
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Aug. 29 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Justice has started to legal measures for the arrest of former CEO of the Jordan Phosphates Mines Company (JPMC), Walid Kurdi, who was sentenced in 2013 to 37.5 years imprisonment and a fine of JOD284 million.
Minister of Justice Awad Abu Jarad said Tuesday that the move came upon a government decision. Abu Jarad told Petra that the Public Prosecutor has sent a Red Notice, an alert published by the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL), to the Jordan Interpol to be sent the Paris Interpol for Kurdi's arrest and extradition.
He noted that the Public Prosecution will send an assistance request to the Justice Ministry, to retrieve the money Kurdi obtained illegally, which is supposed to be sent by the Justice Minister through diplomatic channels to the competent authorities in the United Kingdom, where Al-Kurdi currently resides.
The minister said he will ask the Home Secretary in the United Kingdom, to facilitate legal procedures to arrest the man.
