British Troops Warnd Against Spending Vacations in Morocco

(MENAFN- Morocco World News) The British Ministry of Defense issued a warning to its troops taking holiday breaks about potential terrorist attacks in a number of countries, including Morocco.

The official warning from the British MoD came in a briefing after the failed attempt at the kidnapping of an airman outside a military base in Norfolk. According to the police, the two assailants with a 'Middle Eastern appearance' are being hunted down after the attempted abduction that may have had terrorist motives.

The British MoD briefed the servicemen about the safety measures they need to make while on family vacation. These include disguising regimental tattoos, logos, slogans, and other sorts of emblems that are specific to the Royal Armed Forces (RAF) and Royal Navy.

A source told the British tabloid The Mirror that 'Squaddies tend to stand out from the crowd. They often have tattoos with regimental badges, are usually pretty fit and can be loud.' 'That can make them an easy target. They are being briefed to be sensible and not to drop their guard,' It added.

The memo also urged the troops to administer a 'threat assessment' on large resorts if they intend to spend their summer vacations at them.

A former soldier stated in an interview with the Sunday Times, 'It's terrible that troops who put their lives on the line in the most dangerous war zones cannot relax on a beach in the Costas.'

The British Army personnel were notified that certain countries represent a greater threat to their lives than others. These countries include France, which has seen several terrorist attacks since the beginning of the year. The British government also rated Spain and Turkey as dangerous spots.

As for Muslim majority countries, the government warned its troops from visiting Egypt, Tunisia, and Morocco.

The British Ministry of Defense's warning from visiting Morocco is at odds with the British Foreign Office (FCO) 2016 classification that was released just three days ago, which ranked Morocco as one of the safest countries in the world for tourists.
