S. Korea's foodstuff business ignites upon huge demand


(MENAFN) On their extensive efforts to expand overseas business coupled with the so-called Korean Wave; the number of overseas restaurants, bakeries and cafeterias run by South Korean firms' climbed 25pct on-year in 2015.

According to data by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, as if end-2015, an overall 138 firms operated a whopping 4,656 stores throughout 44 countries, which is up 3,726 registered a year ago.

Furthermore, by country, there were 1,814 Korea-brand shops in China and 1,444 in the Unites States, while Vietnam and the Philippines had 292 and 195, respectively, which hints at China being its most lucrative cash-cow.

"Businesses like bakeries, coffee shops and dessert cafes will lead the overseas expansion of South Korean food companies, and Asian countries including China will be the most favored destinations," stated the minister.
